Yes ... Fado isn't just Alfama, Lisbon & Portugal anymore :-) Since this week it belongs to Unesco's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, which entrance you can consult HERE.
As you may read in Unesco's site, "The dissemination of Fado through emigration and the world music circuit has reinforced its image as a symbol of Portuguese identity, leading to a process of cross-cultural exchange involving other musical traditions." I couldn't find better words to express the role played by Fado in disseminating Portuguese Culture :-)
